I love my romantic bedroom. Most days I have difficulty making my bed. All my bedding is done in roses. My cats are all boys. They love to snuggle into the 'rose bed' every chance they get. I always wished I had my camera near to capture their ability to keep me from making the bed. Now I tell you, could you move this "Little Guy"? I just go away to another chore and let him rest amongst the roses. Sweet dreams Little Guy.

SHOW AND TELL ~ CINDERELLA DREAMS

I had to cheat a little for Show and Tell Monday. The pictures I had to upload are not cooperating. I will use Plan B. For those of you who haven't seen my new bliss, I am introducing my new exciting line called "If The Shoe Fits, Altered Art for Cinderella Dreams". I am having a ball (get it?) rediscovering my stash(es) of beautiful laces, embellishments, brooches, trims, ribbons,etc. that I have had the pleasure of collecting during my years of treasure hunting. There is alot of oohs and aahs going on when I find new delights to make a Cinderella Dream shoe out of. I placed three of the shoes under my Little Pink Boutique, The Polka Dot Rose on Make Mine Pink .(www.makeminepink.com) and will be moving them to my website soon and adding my new lovely ladies. (www.thepolkadotrose.com) . Have a wonderful time looking at all the Show and Tell boutiques at Make Mine Pink.

Pink Friday is In the Hope Chest

Last year after one of my dear Aunties passed on, we were blessed to be a part of going through her hopechest with my cousin. It was like sacred territory to me. To see all the goodies my aunt just could not part with; projects started with hope to be finished someday; linens, yarns; fabrics, etc. I came home with some of my Aunt's gems for enjoyment in my own home.
Today please go to http://www.makeminepink.com/ and visit the boutiques hope chest offerings. Click on Pink Friday packages and you are there! Enjoy!

Show and Tell Monday

u
October is such a beautiful month. One of my friends took me out to lunch to celebrate my birthday and I took these pictures outside of the restaurant. The pumpkins were HUGE and the wreath on the purple door was delightful. I have been wanting to paint my front door and this will motivate me. While we dined indoors and enjoyed all the Fall decorations, the restaurant was also having it's annual outdoorFall Octoberfest, with a band, pony rides for the children, and all types of food to mark the occasion. Very festive. The weather was perfect.

Mug Shot!

Have a cat story for you: One of Liz's cats, Homer, a black and white cat, has a thing for bread. We cannot keep it out anywhere. We usually double bag it, or put it in Tupperware or fridge, etc. He was born by the bakery and must have eaten crumbs, etc. He has a yeast nose for sure. So we are having breakfast out back, and I walk in to see my counter cabinet open and the hotdog rolls I just purchased on the floor! And the back of the cat leaving the scene of the crime! What a hoot! He never had a chance to get it open but one more minute and those rolls would have been his! I wanted to put his little mug shot here. Who could get annoyed at that precious little innocent face?

Show and Tell Monday Sept. 29th

Here is a litle peek at some of the precious wares I was getting ready to pack to take with me to Williamsburg for my Business Recognition Award Display. I have to tell you, I was amazed at everyone's imagination for creating their displays. There were a lot of oohs and aaahs going on in that room. Eileen of Forget Me Not Dreams was the grand prize winner. Congratulations once more Eileen!! Fabulous. For my display I wanted to create a lady's vanity as she has come home from an evening out and is preparing for sleep. I hope to show you my display picture soon. In the meantime, enjoy going to the boutiques today for Show and Tell. It is a wonderful way to begin the week.

Stitches in Time for Pink Friday, September 26th

Stitches in Time; tiny stitches holding the hem of a linen napkin, stitches intertwined to make the most delicate lace, stitches crocheted by the smallest hook, stitches through canvas strengthened by wool yarn. It's these stitches created out of love that adorn a bedspread crocheted for a granddaughter's wedding, a sampler commemorating the birth of a child, a fine table cloth made to entertain the most important guests and family at Thanksgiving. Each of these stitches has survived the test of time and is so much more appreciated today as gifts from our past and treasures of our future. Join the Boutiques at Make Mine Pink for our "Stitches in Time" Pink Friday event, September 26. You will find the most cherished item stitched with time and love.

Show and Tell Monday

I fell in love with this sweet porcelain vanity/dresser trio when I was out looking for treasures one day. Did you have a vanity growing up? I did and to this day I am attacted to vanity accessories. They are so lady like. Of course! When I was a teen I would sit in front on my vanity doing my hair into different syles, setting my hair for dances, trying on new make up. I was ga ga for make up and still am to this day. I could not wait to get 'permission' to get dolled up. In fact, I was such a sly fox that I put my eye makeup on while on the bus going to school, and came home with it on only to get reprimanded. Oopsie! Ah youth!
Getting back to vanity accessories...I have a personal collection of unique vanity/dresser glass container jars with tops. I call it my glass menagerie. I keep buttons, safety pins, marbles (in cases I lose my marbles!), cotton balls, q-tips, etc. in them. They are a great catch all for small items and great for instant organization. They are spread out all over my home.
Don't be vain...check out those vanity accessories and bring the beauty back into your dressing room/vanity table. You can see this set on my Little Pink Boutique, The Polka Dot Rose, http://www.makeminepink.com/boutiques/details/?store=62.

Sweet Dreams of Lavender

Monday is becoming so special with our Show and Tell at Make Mine Pink (http://www.makeminepink.com/). I had a pretty stressful week this past week (so glad it is behind me now) and I know the herb lavender has relaxation properties. I made sure to take time out for pampering myself with lavender shower gel and lavender body cream. I tell you, I slept like a baby that night. Oh sure, babies wake up every hour on the hour! No wonder I am so tired in the morning! All kidding aside, I can feel myself destressing when I am using lavender products in the shower and bath. Water (hydrotherapy) and herbs (aromatherapy) is how you can create a spa in your own home. Even 15 minutes for yourself will make you into a new person; one who can go on to Sweet Dreams. For more information about lavender or herbal spa products for men, women and children, go to my boutique The Polka Dot Rose (http://www.thepolkadotrose.com/) and go to Body and Bath. Coming to the Retreat? There will be a special something for you from me from Switzerland!! Oooh I cannot tell! ssshh....see you there.
PS: Another "Something you may not know about me": I am a consultant for SwissJust, 80 year old family run business of the most wonderful herbal body care line from Walzenhausen, Switzerland in the northeast corner, by Lake Constance, and Austria.(where it is "Just", pronounced Yoost) Whew! Just Beautiful! Not cosmetics. It promotes wellness for everyone. I fell in love with the spa line in 1990 and it is a part of my life I wanted to share with you. After all, it is Show and Tell!

Show and Tell Monday

The next two pictures are a little inkling in my sister's yard. She has a beautiful array of colorful flowers that grow higher than all my nephews! The canna lillies above is taken with me near them looking up! We had a lovely visit. I brought them lunch and goodies from Shiela's and she sent me home with a basket full of her garden's bounty, beef steak tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, and another tote bag filled with things I may like to put on my boutique website. In between all that was much conversation, laughter and hugs. Enough to keep us satisfied in mind, body and spirit. Enjoy looking at all the sites for Show and Tell Monday at Make Mine Pink. I've Been Tagged!! (No Show, All Tell)

I've been tagged by Inka of Inklings Designs and now I have to come up with 7 things you don't know about moi ....Let's see what I can tell you without ruining my good reputation:
(1) I have been to Graceland, home of Elvis, in Memphis, TN! I found it to be very touching and was go glad I went.
(2) I have personally met Luciano Pavarotti two times in his dressing room at the MET. I have a picture of him and I just as his then girlfriend came up to us to give him a pill (my one moment of fame, drats, but I show it with pride!)
(3) I have met Paula Deen and her new hubby Michael. Have a picture of Paula and I too. We both look like we love butter! Ya'll~!
(4) I met Randy Travis last year in a boutique in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was shopping with his honey and I had to walk right past him to get out and I extended my hand to him, saying "Hi, how do you do?" and he shook my hand with a big smile, "Fine, and you?"....I still have not washed my hand. My brother asked, "what no autograph?" and I replied, "he didn't ask me for one"!!LOL. I didn't want to be 'one of those' pesty fans...
(5) I have been up in a hot air balloon. It was 1988. Now I am afraid I am the hot air balloon! It was just as magnificent as I imagined it would be and very spiritual.
(6) I was a ballerina when I was 4 and the apple of my instructor's eye. I had to stop because my cousin no longer wanted to do ballet and my Mother did not drive... (shed a tear here)... so we did not have transportation. To this day I love anything to do with ballet and classical music.
(7) I love to do the dishes! As a child my goal was to be 'big enough' to reach the kitchen sink. Once I got there, I was happy as a little lark. Still am!
Okay, now I get to select someone to tag....let's see...
(1) Francie,of A Scented Cottage;
(2) Lilli (Debra) of Lilli Blue's Vintage Rescues;
(3) Connie of Living Beautifully;
(4) Georgia of Grandma G's Cottage;
(5) Theresa of Cottage Violets;

My Sister Liz's Art At The WHB Outdoor Art Show

Oh this sister is so proud! This is my sister Liz, with her latest beauties at the 2008 Westhampton Beach OutDoor Artshow. It takes place for two days. The weather was forboding today but it only 'sprinkled' on them, while it poured here where we live. Liz's pictures show her love for the area, the local scenes, the boats in the bay, beach houses on the ocean, antique trucks and her tribute to the West, her cowgirls, to name but a few in her collection. I wanted to share these with you.

New Additions to My Collection for Show and Tell

Heaven, I'm in heaven...that is what I am singing today for Monday's Show and Tell. I purchased this lovely hobnail milkglass set which included a pitcher, sugar bowl , creamer and six juice glasses to add to my hobnail collection. I thought nothing else could excite me; what more could I possibly 'need' and then my eyes set sight on this beautiful set while boutique shopping at polka dot rose (http://www.polkadotrose.net/) ! Yes, we have The Polka Dot Rose (me) and polka dot rose, my new friends, Kristi and Karla. I unwrapped the goodies and immediately took pictures to capture my new beauties. I invited a friend for breakfast al fresco Saturday morning and proudly served her juice from the pitcher into the little juice glass. She was so impressed (and secretly, so was I!!). I thought I had "enough" pieces of my wonderful hobnail milkglass in my collection. I was wrong. Isn't that what treasure hunting is all about? It turned out to be a treasure indeed. Thank you Kristi and Karla for brightening my world. Enjoy Show and Tell today at all the boutiques at Make Mine Pink (http://www.makeminepink.com/) and see what treasures are awaiting you.

Pulling Out All the Lace

I am just beginning to rediscover all my 'stash' of beautiful laces and embellishments I have accumulated over the days, weeks, months and years of being an avid treasure hunter. I use the word 'rediscover' because it is all tucked away like precious gems awaiting their time in the spot light. That is what happened when I came across this beautiful lace. When I saw this, I had to have it for the lace alone. Guess what it is? Take a gander and leave me a response on my blog. I have something sweet and pink awaiting one lucky person. The winner will be chosen on Thursday, July 17th. Will it be you?

Casey
This is an email I received from my brother, who lost his best friend, his Casey. We have all been very emotional as we are all very close sibblings and when one cries, we all cry, when one laughs, we all laugh. I am grateful to have been there today when he called me early this morning and then again as he rode back to spend time and say goodbye to Casey. It is not an easy read, but something we all have to face one time or another, when we love our fuzzy pets:
'It's with a very heavy heart that I am sending this update. At approximately 11:50 a.m., today, Casey was put to sleep with me by her side, petting her. We've gone through a lot together and I wanted to be there with her when she passed.
I got to bed at 3:45 am and was woken out of my sleep by a phone call from Dr. Nutini at 5:15 am. She said test results showed that she was anemic and possibly had internal bleeding and suggested more testing. Lack of sleep and disbelief was making it impossible to make a decision on what to do... give the okay for more testing or the harder option... having her put to sleep. Susie, thank you for helping me see through the fog. Susie said, "You should do the right thing for Casey." After hanging up with Susie and giving it some thought the obvious thing to do for both Casey and I was to not throw in the towel so quickly... she deserved that much. I approved further testing then laid down to try to sleep... nice try.
Between 9:30 and 10:00 am Dr. Nutini called to let me know that the tests confirmed what they thought was the case. Casey had a large growth in her stomach that appeared to have metastasized (spread through her body). Game, set, match... only one option remained. What a punch in the gut. They told me I could come in and spend some time with her and, if I chose, I could stay for the end. That's what I did.
I grabbed my camera, a pack of tissues and a Milk Bone and headed for the critical care center. I arranged to pay before hand because I didn't want to have to conduct business afterwards. An awesome vet, Dr. Lugones, called me into an exam room. We spoke for a while. She told me how the procedure would go and let me know that the staff gave her bacon and eggs and she woofed it down. She left and came back with Casey.
Casey was in good spirits (which made it all the more difficult). She was happy to see me and kept walking over to the exam room door as if to say, "Comeon Dad! Let's get out of here!" I handed Dr. Lugones the camera so she could capture the last few moments of what was a wonderful relationship (I've attached them below to tear at your heart strings).
Dr. Lugones was crying as she took the pictures (yes, I was too).
Then she gave Casey and I fifteen minutes alone. Then she came back we both sat on the floor with Casey sitting in the middle. First she gave Casey a sedative that basically knocked her out and then gave her the lethal injection. Gone... Good-bye lil pup-pup. I love you and I'll miss you dearly.
One last treat...
Okay... one more...
Kissing that nose a thousand times for those that weren't there...
Best friends to the end ( she looks so happy)...
Feel free to call to console me... I'm devastated. " [Note to readers: Pictures not shown]
Rest peacefully Casey and thank you for loving my brother unconditionally for twelve loyal years. Wait for him at the Rainbow Bridge. http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/rainbowb.htm

Look Who Took Top Billing for my Show and Tell!

Who could resist that face? The basket is one of the treasures I found at a yard sale Saturday. I scooped it up and then filled it will all kinds of treasures. Once I came home and unloaded everything on the table, I put the basket down. This is Hopper aka Velco aka Houdini....he does not miss a trick checking something new out, especially if he can manage to get into it. What a hoot! So, I thought this would make a cute Show and Tell Monday of one of my latest yard sale finds. I just finished wrapping my Secret Sister gift, and geez, I wish I was getting it!

It's Always Strawberry Season

Today is Monday Show and Tell at the boutiques at Make Mine Pink (http://www.makeminepink.com/), so pour yourself a nice iced tea and take a look.
It's always strawberry season at my home! June is one of my favorite months because fresh strawberries are out at the farm stands. I try to frequent the local stands and enjoy the strawberries as long as I can.
My pictures for show and tell today is of my vintage table and chairs I found at an antique shop a few years ago. that was done by a local artist. My sister and I went up to Brimfield Antique Show and I was trying to find a new table and chairs. We came home with knick knacks and paddywacks. When I least expected it, I saw this set at an antique shop near home and I had to have it. I fell in love with it. It was fun, whimsical, had strawberries that I loved, and it was a repurposed table and chairs! It even has a little silverware draw in it, so perhaps it is of the 40's or 50's. It did not match anything in my home. I didn't care. Isn't that how you feel when love hits you?
This table brings me joy each day when I see it. I have changed my kitchen/dining room to black and white toile, checks and one pinky red wall. Very striking. I love it!
